Zulu baskets are handwoven from indigenous plants and dyed using natural dyes. The Zulus are the largest ethic group in South Africa. Women make baskets in their homes to supplement their monthly income.
Ukhamba baskets are water-tight when liquid is poured inside because of the tight weave and the ilala palm that is used to make them. This basket with a zigzag pattern is approximately 10" high and 10" in diameter (at largest).
