Traditional Mudcloth #042

Mudcloth is a traditional cloth from Mali in West Africa. The fabric is made from handspun cotton grown in local fields. It's handwoven into strips, sewn together and then dyed with fermented mud and other natural dyes. The fermented mud used to dye this cloth gives it its name.

This piece is approximately 41" by 62". It features golden brown, black and white colors in a bold diamond pattern.

In Mali, mudcloth is rinsed to clean it. Detergents will cause the fabric to fade.

Mudcloth works great as a wall hanging, throw, home decoration, garments, decorative textile art or stretched on a frame.
