Large Traditional Mudcloth #039

Mudcloth is a traditional cloth from Mali in West Africa. The fabric is made from handspun cotton grown in local fields. It's handwoven into strips, sewn together and then dyed with fermented mud and other natural dyes. The fermented mud used to dye this cloth gives it its name.

This large piece is approximately 61" by 90". It features golden browns, black and cream white colors in a bold abstract pattern.

In Mali, mudcloth is rinsed to clean it. Detergents will cause the fabric to fade.

Mudcloth works great as a wall hanging, throw, home decoration, garments, decorative textile art or stretched on a frame.
