Mudcloth is a traditional cloth from Mali in West Africa. It is called mudcloth because mud is used as one of the dyes. The fabric is handspun cotton grown in local fields that is then handwoven into strips sewn together and then dyed with fermented mud and other natural dyes. The process is quite complex.

This piece is approximately 4' x 6'. In Mali mudcloth is rinsed to clean it. Detergents will cause the fabric to fade.

Mudcloth is great as a throw a wall hanging  or used in home decoration garments and decorative textile art. or stretched on a frame.
