About Us

French antiques, African art, and imported fabrics may seem like a strange mix for a shop in a small North Carolina town, but it just reflects our past and our interests! Jacques is French, born in South Africa, and Wendy is a native North Carolinian. We met in Cape Town, South Africa and have spent our married life in France, Senegal, and now the USA!

We opened French Connections in 2000, just months after moving to North Carolina from Dakar, Senegal, in West Africa. Now, we have a shop bulging at the seams with French antiques we import from Normandy, African art from places we've lived and visited, made by many people we know, and hard to find French and African fabrics that we pack up and take on the road to a dozen or so quilt shows every year.

We thoroughly enjoy the chance to maintain contact with both France and Africa and to share experiences with our clients. With four school-aged children we stay busy, so please excuse us if the website is not always uptodate! We welcome your comments and suggestions.

French Connections is located in the historic Thompson House in downtown Pittsboro. This turn of the century (1900) home is a wonderful display for all we have packed inside (and outside)
